Cherita Lea Daugherty, age 73, a resident of Philippi, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Mon General Hospital.

 

Cherita was born on February 6, 1952, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Artie and Delores (Paugh) Coontz.

 

She was united in marriage on July 7, 1970, to her loving husband, Keith L. Daugherty, who survives. Cherita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

 

She is survived by her children: Christine Daugherty and husband Matt Cvechko,  and Eric Daugherty and wife Tammy; and her cherished grandchildren: Anthony, Shawn, Skylar, Darien, Aubrey, Kierra, and Kaydence.

 

Cherita worked as a police dispatcher for the Paden City Police Department and proudly served her community as a past City Council member for Paden City. She was a member of the Church of Christ, American Legion Post #86 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

 

In her free time, Cherita enjoyed cross stitch, cooking, studying history, and researching her family’s genealogy. In her retired years, she especially treasured spending time with her husband and grandchildren.

 

Family and friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 220 N. Walnut Street, Philippi, on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with interment to follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
