Raube Morris McDaniel, age 88, of Philippi, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026. He had been in declining health, though his death was unexpected.
He was born on August 9, 1937, in Philippi, a son of the late Ralph Morris McDaniel and Dorothy Maude (Phillips) McDaniel.
Raube proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 and was stationed in Germany. He later retired from the United States Postal Service and was also the owner and operator of his own business.
A true jack of all trades, Raube was known for his many talents and interests. He enjoyed hunting and was a certified safety instructor. He was an avid gunsmith and woodworker, crafting dulcimers and mandolins, and he could play just about anything with strings. He also loved music and sang with the Nestorville Guys and Gals. Raube was a graduate of the “University of Hard Knocks,” a sentiment well-earned through a lifetime of hands-on skill and experience.
He was a member of American Legion Post #44 and Woodmen of the World.
Raube is survived by his son, Paul David McDaniel and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Jack, Madeline, and Sam McDaniel; his brother Richard McDaniel and wife Blanche; his sister Doretta Brown and husband Edgar; sister-in-law Pam McDaniel; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys McDaniel, and his brother, Philip McDaniel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, or to the American Legion Post #44, 44 ½ S. Main St. Philippi, WV 26416
A private service will be held.
