Evelyn Lorraine Smith

Evelyn Lorraine Smith, of Flemington, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Taylor Healthcare Center. She was born on July 18, 1945, in Barbour County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late David Arthur and Violet Virginia (Starkey) McCord.

Evelyn was married to her beloved husband, Harold Smith, for 52 years before his passing on December 9, 2018. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and devotion.

A dedicated caregiver and homemaker, Evelyn found great joy in caring for others. She loved sewing, cooking, shopping, and camping, but most of all, she cherished time spent with her family. She especially enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren and visiting with loved ones.

She is survived by her children: Harold David Smith; Michael Gerald Smith and wife Lesa; and Steven Douglas Smith and wife Sandra. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Stefani Bugnait, Ben Smith, Mychael Smith, Jakob Smith, Douglas Smith, and Kayla Triplett; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild expected this summer.

Evelyn is also survived by her siblings: Sherry Stutler; Annette Wilfong and husband Curtis; Velma Foster and husband James; Darlene Hudkins and husband Charlie; Buddy McCord; and Paul McCord and wife Paula, along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home and On-Site Crematory, 220 N. Walnut Street, Philippi, on Thursday, April 9, from 5:00–8:00 PM, and on Friday, April 10, from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM. The funeral service will be held Friday at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Scott Davis officiating.

Evelyn will be laid to rest beside her loving husband at Trinity Cemetery.
