Born in: New Haven , Connecticut
Resided in: Surfside Beach, South Carolina

Michael Patrick Donovan Sr., 69, a resident of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Michael was born on September 19, 1956, in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of John V. Donovan Jr. and Evangeline (Ciminski) Donovan, and the beloved stepson of Zelma Donovan. He previously lived in West Haven, Connecticut, and later made his home in Clinton, Connecticut, where he raised his family.

Michael had a deep love for the ocean, which influenced his decision to live in both Clinton, CT and Surfside Beach, SC. He developed a passion for golf later in life, beginning in his 60s, and quickly grew to love the game. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating. A devoted sports fan, Michael proudly supported the Chicago Bears and the Boston Red Sox.

A third-generation railroader, Michael dedicated 38 years of service to the railroad industry. Over the course of his career, he worked for Penn Central, Conrail, and Metro-North Railroad before retiring.

Above all, Michael dearly loved his family and went above and beyond for them in every way. He was a generous and giving man with a heart of gold, always ready to lend a hand or offer support to those he loved.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Shari Donovan; his son, Michael Donovan Jr.; his daughter, Ali Boyce and her husband, Brett; and his cherished granddaughter, Payton Grace Boyce; as well as several nieces and nephews in Florida.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Kathleen Donovan and John Donovan III, and his stepbrother, Richard Donovan.

Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
