Jerry Lee Crites

Jerry Lee Crites, 84, of Philippi, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the WV Caring Hospice Facility in Elkins.

He was born June 5, 1941, in Barbour County, a son of the late James Virgil and Helen Virginia (Propst) Crites. Jerry was a graduate of Philippi High School, Class of 1960. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, where he earned recognition as a sharpshooter.

Jerry was employed in the maintenance department at Alderson-Broaddus College. In his free time, he enjoyed cooking and gardening when he was able, and he especially liked watching westerns and game shows.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Crites; his step-son, James Marshall and wife Donna; his grandchildren, Somer Fisher and husband Cody, Nick Marshall, Samantha Marshall, Jama Marshall-Roy and husband Zach, and Zoe Marshall; and his siblings, James Crites, Joe Crites, Juanita Sharp, and Oleta Ryman, special friend and caregiver Roconda Daugherty.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Crites.

The family will welcome friends at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday, April 30, from 5:00–8:00 PM and again on Friday, May 1, from 9:00–11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor James Marshall officiating. Jerry will be laid to rest in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the US Army and American Legion Post #96.
