Mrs. Nestor built a life rooted in love, hard work, and faithfulness. A devoted Christian and lifelong member of Arden Church, she was a constant “prayer warrior” for those she loved. When I was a young girl and first came to Arden so many years ago, Billy, Vera and Virgie were some of the first people that greeted me with such hospitality and warmth. The allowed me to live in their tiny trailer behind the garage which gave me the urge to have my own tiny house one day, which I do! The furnace was old and belched heating oil now and then and Billy would bring a wrench and fix it. I ate many a meal at their table in that kitchen of Vera’s. She loved to cook and bake desserts. Just being around them put a glow in your heart because you could tell they loved one another deeply! I’m so glad they had a lot of years together with that love. One time I was laid up with roadburn from a motorcycle wreck and Vera would send Billy over every night with a different soup and crackers. Comfort food. Billy got me my job at Badger where he worked and I grew to love the smell of coal. I made so many friends because of Billy. Billy and Pete Sandridge were famous turtle hunters and I remember tubs of them in Billy’s yard. Pete was ornery and teased Billy a lot because of his dread of snakes. The only good snake for Billy was a dead snake! Vera was a great daughter-in-law to Virgie, and took care of her without complaint, probably because she had lost her mother young. Billy loved his mother and Vera did too. I know that Virgie lived to a very old age because of Vera’s care. Vera and Billy adored their two daughters and together they were such a happy family. Willa Jo and Billie Sue, you had parents that I thought were just about perfect. I never heard your Daddy raise his voice to your mother, and if he did, he did it in private. Vera was always happy with a twinkle in her eye. Church was another home to them both and they contributed a lot of time and money to the Arden Church where their children and grandchildren still go. They both gave back to their community in little things they offered. Their lives were a testament to how the Good Lord expects us to live and I know he welcomed Vera with open arms just like he did your Daddy. She has finally found eternal peace. Love and blessings Vera, Melissa Rosier Ireland
