William McDaniel

William Robert "Bob" McDaniel, age 89, a resident of Wellington Heights, Philippi passed away Thursday October 15, 2009 at his residence. He had been in poor health for over three years. He was born January 24, 1920 in Barbour County a son of the late Floyd and Delphia (Phillips) McDaniel. On August 21, 1949 he was united in marriage to Dolores J. (Bartlett) McDaniel who survives in Wellington Heights. Also surviving; One brother; Charles R. McDaniel and wife Jo Ellen of Wellington Heights, Philippi Two sisters; Gladys Paxton of Canton, OH Rosemary Maxwell and husband Sam of McSherrystown, PA Foster son; Delane McDaniel of Philippi Mr. McDaniel had many nieces and nephews that were very close to him, also great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Burl McDaniel of Carrollton, OH, Carl L. McDaniel Sr. of Grafton. Mr. McDaniel was very active in the Philippi Lions Club, a 50 year member. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where he was active with the youth. He helped form the Boy Scout Troop in the Church. He was elected to the Barbour County Commission and served three terms. In the 18 years he served 10 of the years was as president and he never missed a meeting. He was a founder of the Barbour Co. Fairgrounds and Barbour Co. Emergency Squad. He served in the US Army and was a life member of the American Legion Post #44. He served on the Barbour Co. Health Depart. for more than 20 years. He was on the Board of Directors of North Central Community Action for the thirty years. He retired from Berry Energy Gas Co. of Clarksburg, where he had been employed for over twenty years. He was a leasing and right away agent. His Country, State, County and City was very important to him and the spent a lot of time helping to improve it. He will be missed by many. Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday October 16, from 6-8:00 p.m. on Saturday October 17, from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and on Sunday October 18, from 8-11:00 a.m. the service hour with Rev. Linda Payton and Speaker Lewis Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.   2. So sorry to hear of Bill's death. We only met a few times at my step-father's home (Dale Bartlett)but I know he was full of life and so friendly. I know he will be missed. I pray you take comfort in good memories and know he is in a far better place.
