Lela Mae Reed, age 90, a resident of Good Samaritan Society of Barbour County and a former resident of Rt. 4 Philippi passed away Saturday March 9, 2013. She was born March 16, 1922 in Clemtown, a daughter of the late Elihue and Trona (Cross) Mitchell. She was united in marriage July 30, 1941 in Indianapolis, IN to James “Talkie” Reed who preceded her in death July 23, 1998. Surviving is:

Donna Humphreys and husband Thomas of Bridgeport
Doris Nestor and husband Michael of Thornton
Diana Bibey and husband Roger of Belington
Two sons:
Donald Reed and wife Connie of Philippi
Douglas Reed and wife Ronetta of Fredericksburg, VA
Three sister-in-laws:
Verlin Mitchell of Shinnston
Myrtle Campbell of Philippi
Betty Jenkins of Fairmont
10 grandchildren: Stacey Humphreys, Christopher Humphreys, Travis Michette, Jill Cope, Donovan Reed, Chad Reed, Breanna Nestor, Andrew James Reed, Brian Bibey, Rochelle Carpenter
17 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren
Mrs. Reed was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by 12 brother and sisters, Thelma Keller, Agnes Keller, Opal Berger, Haley Wright, Rita Kennedy, Violet Mouser, Edna Mitchell, Elbern Mitchell, Wilburn Mitchell, Carl Mitchell, Harry Mitchell, and James Mitchell.
Mrs. Reed was a homemaker and attended the Mansfield United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday march 12, from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday March 13, from 8 am- 1 pm the service hour with Rev. Gregory Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Clemtown Cemetery.







May Mrs. Reed rest in peace and may the family be blessed with many pleasant memories. Seems as if those who were raised and walked the roads of Clemtown years ago have mostly gone on to a better place. You are in my prayer this day.
