Hugh C. Daugherty

Hugh C. Daugherty, age 90, of Philippi passed away at White Oaks Assisted Living on Wednesday September 5, 2018 after an extended illness. Mr. Daugherty was a faithful member of the Philippi Church of Christ where he led singing for many years. He was born in Philippi, WV on October 22, 1927. He was preceded in death by his mother Eva Mildred (Midge) Foster Daugherty and his father Corbett Vane Daugherty, along with five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Louise (Poling) Daugherty and his five children: Barbara Daugherty of Philippi, Keith Daugherty and his wife Cherita of Paden City, WV, Vicki Kerns of Bridgeport, WV, Matthew Daugherty of Las Vegas, NV, Beth Hanlin and her fiancé, Clyde Prieto of Clarksburg, WV He is survived by six grandchildren; Christine Daugherty, Eric Daugherty, Miranda Carpenter, Jessica Kerns, Josh Hanlin, Noah Hanlin and nine great grandchildren and one brother, Randal Rance Daugherty of Glen Burnie MD, and one sister, Orella Paulette Honeycutt of Staunton, VA. Mr. Daugherty served in the Army Air Corp as a cryptographer for six years and was a veteran of World War II and Korean War. Following his military service, he retired after 42 years with the B&O railroad. He was an active member of the Union Community Association. He was a loving family man and will be missed by many. We would like to extend a special thanks to Amedysis Hospice In lieu of flowers please send donations to Potters Children’s Home, 2350 Nashville Rd. Bowling Green, KY 42101. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday September 7, from 4-8 pm and on Saturday September 8, from 8- 11 am the service hour with Evangelist Darrell Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery with military honors being accorded.

  5. One of the sweetest, caring, men I was fortunate to be able to call my uncle. He helped whenever and wherever called upon. An angel on earth, he now has his wings. I pray to God to protect and to watch over the family. It seems we've all lost so much. Know my heart is aching for you. God will see you through this difficult time. I love you all!
