Darl B. Fridley

Darl B. Fridley, age 87 of Philippi, WV departed this life June 23, 2019 at his residence surrounded by family and friends. Darl was born on November 22, 1931 in Philippi to Gordon H. and Ola (Costello) Fridley. He was married to Shirley M. Jenkins on July 6, 1954, who preceded him in death on September 11, 2016. They had two daughters- Claudia L. Yocum and husband Jack of Philippi and Debra K. (Wolfe) Hamerski of South Carolina. He had three grandsons- Scott L. and Jason K. Steerman, and Dallas J. Wolfe IV; and great-grandson, Tristan L. Steerman. He is survived by three brothers; (William) Blaine Fridley of Philippi, Gordon H. II Fridley and wife Rosemary of Clarksburg and Russell T. and wife Judy Fridley of Foster, WV and one sister, Kathleen (Katy) Hannas White of Bridgeport He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two brothers; (John) Calvin Fridley and Miner Lee (Buzz) Fridley. Darl served as Sgt. In the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for King Knob Coal Co. Darl was a member of the VFW Local Post #41, UMWA, American Legion Post #44 and Moose Lodge #598. He was an accomplished golfer and shot 3 Hole-in-1’s with the last being at the age of 80. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Darl loved watching the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball and any WVU sports. He was a devoted family man. Darl was surrounded throughout his life with a network of close friends and neighbors. He is leaving behind a friend and caretaker, Jane Compton Williams that brought new energy into his life He was Christian by Faith. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday June 25 from 12-8 pm and on Wednesday June 26, from 8-11 am the service hour with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery with military honors accorded.
