Douglas Allen

April 13, 1945 ~ January 24, 2012

Douglas E. Allen, age 66, a resident of Rt. 4 Philippi passed away Tuesday January 24, 2012 in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. He was born April 13, 1945 in Philippi a son of the late Ralph Edward Allen and Velma Roselea ( Bolyard ) Allen who survives. He was united in marriage on June 12, 1965 to Barbara (Wolfe) Allen who survives at home. Also surviving Two daughters: Dawn A. Goodwin and husband Robert of Point Marion, PA Amy L. Allen of Philippi One brother: David R. Allen of Philippi Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents James W. and Sylvia Bolyard, one brother James F. Allen of Wheeling. Doug worked as a 911 dispatcher for the Barbour County Communication Center, he worked for Standard Laboratories as a coal sampler. He retired from the US Army having served from 1962- 1985. Doug was a member of the Philippi Fire Department for over 20 yrs, American Legion Post #44, Life member of the VFW Post # 410, VVA Chapter # 882, Philippi Lions Club, a past Girl Scout Leader, the Jerusalem United Methodist Church, and was a beloved son, husband, and father. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday January 27, from 2-8 pm and Saturday January 28, from 8 am- 1 pm the service hour with Rev. Tim Bleigh and Speaker Jim Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Barbour Memorial Cemetery with military honours being accorded.

  3. I am a freind of Dawns and would like to send prayers to you and your family at this time of sorrow.I have heard such wonderful things about Mr. Allen and am sorry for your loss. If he was anything like his daughter Dawn, loving, caring, always doing for others before herself, he was a wonderful man then. Im sorry I never had the honor of meeting him. Just keep in your minds that the Lord tells us; ” To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” We can rejoice in knowing that he is walking on the streets of gold and we will see him again one day.   4. My brother in law was an extraordinary man who was always ready with advice I know he was there for me when Jim passed I loved him respected him and will miss him very much

    As I was growing up beside the Allen's Doug was the older kid in the neighborhood that we all looked up to. He went on to live his life earning that respect over and over.
