Vesta "June" Phillips

Vesta Alberta “June” Bussey Phillips, age 75, a resident of Phillips Rd. Philippi, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at her son’s home, following an extended illness. She was born on September 5, 1944 in Ryan, Oklahoma a daughter of the late Vester D. and Margaret (Edwards) Bussey. Vesta was uited in marriage on July 13, 1960 to Rev. Jesse Lee Phillips, who preceded her in death on March 24, 2014. Surviving are: Three daughters, Margaret Marie Phillips Kisamore of Harrisonburg, VA Cathern Kay Phillips Coontz, and husband Raymond of Lost City, WV Debra Sue Phillips Morris and husband Kevin of Hurricane, WV Two sons, Burton Phillips Wilbert Lee Phillips and wife Stephanie all of Philippi Several nieces and nephews Nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one step grandson, six step great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren Vesta was preceded in death by one son, John Matthew Phillips, one grandson, Matthew Waitman Phillips, one step granddaughter, Margaret Ann Coontz Sheffer, two brothers, Otho Connor and Charles O’Neal Connor, three sisters Eva May Connor Butz, Dorothy Connor Vamillon, and Doris Ann Bussey Christian Vesta was a homemaker, she enjoyed reading her Bible, visiting with her family and friends, working word puzzles and she loved to go to church. She was a member of Calvary Mission Church in Belington. She loved making cakes and embroidering and crocheting. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Wednesday December 4, from 6-8 pm and on Thursday December 5, from 8 am- 1 pm the service hour. Interment will follow in the White Oak Cemetery.

  1. She was a wonderful baby-sitter to our oldest son. She cared for him just like one of her own. Good to hear she had a long life. Condolences to her children. I know she will be missed.

  2. My Mother is one the greatest women I'll ever know, God give me the strength to go on. I love you more than you'll ever know. Kiss daddy enjoy Jesus Birthday with him this year.

  3. I just saw that she had passed, she was such a sweet person, when she was one of my patients at Broaddus, I always enjoyed taking care of her.
