Monzell Anglin

October 28, 1924 ~ July 8, 2011

Monzell Anglin, Jr. age 86, a resident of Parkview Dr. passed away Friday July 8, 2011 in the Hospice Care Facility in Elkins. He was born October 28, 1924 in Barbour County, the son of the late Monzell and Lucille (Wentz) Anglin. On August 20, 1955 he married Lois Jean "Jeanie" Oneacre who survives. Also surviving are: Two daughters: Rebecca Lloyd and husband David of Mystic, CT. Kay Chick and husband William of Indiana, PA One son: David Anglin and Susan of Philippi Grandchildren: Jourdan O' Grady, Matthew and Nathan Lloyd, Tyler and Timothy Chick, and Heidi Anglin. Two step-grandchildren: Jarrod and Ashley Spotloe. Two sisters: Dorothy Nutter of Mansfield Place Pauline Bartlett of Talbott's Nursing Home He was a graduate of Philippi High School and attended West Virginia University and Clarksburg Business College. He was a veteran of World War II. He was owner and operator of A & M hardware and Builders Center, having built many homes in Philippi. He was president of the Barbour County Board of Education and served on the board for 12 years. He was a member of American Legion Post #44 and a former member of the Kiwanis Club. His hobbies were gardening, woodworking and antiquing. He was a master basket maker, having crafted over a thousand baskets over the last thirty years. He was a member of Crim Memorial United Methodist Church, where he had served as a trustee. member of the Administrative Board and Methodist Men. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday July 11, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday July 12 from 8-9:30 am at which time he will be moved to Crim Memorial United Methodist Church to lie in state from 10-11 am. Funeral service will be held at 11 am with Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church 200 Pike St. Philippi, WV 26416.   7. I purchased Mr. Anglin's “West Virginia Hills” Basket at Adaland. It is beautiful and will be treasured. He was master basketmaker, indeed.

    I am Dick and Isabel Anglin's 2nd son. I live in Germantown, TN (outside of Memphis).
    I remember visiting “June's” family and place in Phillipi when I was quite young. He and you were always hospitable and kind to us all.
