Braiden Lucas Short

June 10, 2003 ~ February 28, 2023

Braiden Lucas Short, age 19, a resident of Philippi, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday February 28, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Braiden was born June 10, 2003 in Elkins, WV a son of Thomas Brian and Jaime Dawn (Durst) Short who survive at home. Also surviving is brother and best friend, Zac Short and wife Madison of Philippi, expected nephew Jace Short; grandparents Tom Short and wife Shelley of Philippi, Kevin Durst and wife Suetta of Belington; great-grandmother, Nancy Durst of Montrose; Aunt, Gwen Shelton and husband Jason; Cousin, Emma, Reese, Addie, and Carter; numerous friends that will forever miss him. Braiden was a graduate of Philip Barbour Highs School Class of 2021, he played on the PB Baseball team for 4 years and his senior year the team went on to be Sectional Champs. Braiden was an avid fisherman, and was a member of the Philip Barbour Fishing Team, and the Bass Nation of WV. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing and farming. Braiden was loved by everyone and would always lend a helping hand. He will be remember for his big heart and smile. Family meant a lot to Braiden, he always loved the time he was able to share with them. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday March 5, from 1- 8pm and on Monday March 6, from 11am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Pastor Jeff Burnett officiating. Interment will follow in the Short Family Cemetery located on their farm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Pursuit’s Dream Foundation, www.Holypursuitsdreamfoundation.org.

  3. Braiden joined our Youth program as a member of Mon Valley Jr. Bassmasters and then progressed to our Adult program as a member of Mon Valley Bassmasters.
    I’m very thankful that I was fortunate to weigh a lot of Braiden’s bass. He was an exemplary young man & a valued member of our organization. He’ll be missed.
    May the Good Lord bring comfort and strength to Braiden’s family & many friends.
