Phyllis Geraldine Tuning, age 82, a resident of Montrose, WV, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday August 31, 2024, at the home of her daughter. Phyllis “Gerry” was born February 17, 1942, in Richmond, California a daughter of the late William Bise and Winnie Disney.
Gerry worked as an LPN then as an RN, for Davis Medical Center, Mountain Hospice, and Hometown Care. She had a huge heart for helping sick people.
She loved hummingbirds, and would feed over 5 gallons of humming bird feed at the busiest peak! Bird banders from all over the world came and learned how to band the tiny wonders in her yard. Banders would weigh, evaluate, and band the birds. Gerry was very crafty, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was also an avid reader. Loved her piano and guitar. She would play her music to put her children to sleep when they were little. She also loved to grow vegetables and flowers for her humming birds.
Surviving is daughter Kim Jeffries and husband John Moats, grandchildren Matt Jeffries and wife Tonya, Heather Wray and her sweet baby Layla, great grandchildren Taitem, Holden, and Darby Jeffries, sister Marilyn Rush and husband Morrie, niece Deedee Rayfield and husband Doug, step daughter Debra (Mark) Phares. Her littlest survivor is her most loyal lap companion Rosie.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, husband Preston “Peck” Tuning, a baby son born too early and an adult son James Wray, grandson Andy Jeffries, three sisters, and stepson Doug Tuning.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Randolph County Humane Society PO Box 785 Elkins, WV 26241.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Saturday September 14, from 11am- 1pm. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 1 pm with Pastor Steve Felder officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Mt. State Memorial Gardens.







Kim, I send my condolences. I loved your Mom, I worked with her at Davis Memorial Hospital and Hospice. She was a great lady and a very good nurse. Loved seeing the pictures she would share of all the hummingbirds on her porch on Cherry Fork. Praying for peace and comfort for you and your family.

You will forever be missed my big sister. All the memories of our childhood that we reminisced about will be missed without you. Our texting sessions, our phone conversations and face time………..gone.
