Carol Sue Wright

Carol Sue (Humphreys) Wright, age 77, of Nestorville, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a period of declining health. She was born December 2, 1947, at her family home in Nestorville, the daughter of the late George and Margaret “Ann” (Gribble) Humphreys.

Carol was a graduate of Phillip Barbour High School and went on to earn an associate’s degree in business West Virginia Junior College. Alongside her late husband, David Eugene Wright, whom she married July 26, 1965, she helped run their family businesses — Wright’s Auto Repair and Sales and Wright’s Excavating — both of which became staples in their community.

Carol had a deep love for her home and found joy in mowing her lawn, working in her flower beds, and spending time with her beloved cat, Lulu. A woman of strong Methodist faith, she was a member of Nestorville United Methodist Church. Carol was known for her warm heart, constant smile, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met.

Her greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who never missed a sporting event or activity her loved ones were involved in. Her unwavering support and love touched many lives and created cherished memories.

She is survived by her daughters, Tina (Randy) Shriver and Lisa (Ben) Metz; her sister, Kim (Ryan) McDowell; her brother, Mike (Sharon) Humphrey; grandchildren: Brittini and RJ Johnson, Nikki Shriver, David Shriver, and Blake Cooper; and great-grandchildren: Quinn and Creed Johnson.

In addition to her husband and parents, Carol was preceded in death by her in-laws, James and Geraldine Wright, and several aunts and uncles.

Carol’s love, strength, and enduring spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Carol’s family will receive friends at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi o Monday September 29, from 4-8 pm and again on Tuesday September 30, from 9- 11am.  Funeral services will be held at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Ms. Bev Kendall and Pastor Tammy Phillips officiating.  Carol will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Tacy Crossroads Cemetery.
