Charles Curkendall

February 4, 1935 ~ January 23, 2012

Charles Randall Curkendall, age 76, a resident of S. Main St. Philippi passed away Monday January 23, 2012 in Mon General Hospital in Morgantown after a brief illness. He was born February 4, 1935 in Parcoal, WV a son of the late Everett Matthew and Myrtle Irene (Dorsey) Curkendall. He was united in marriage September 1, 1956 to Nina Beryl (McDaniel) Curkendall who survives. Also surviving are Two daughters: Terri Frances Riffle and husband Steve of Buckhannon Rachel Anne Cunningham of Clarksburg One son: Charles R. Curkendall and wife Nancy of Belington One sister: Eleanor Dennison and husband Roger of Fairmont Grandchildren Michael G. Metz of Morgantown, Trahern C. and Cody Curkendall of Philippi, Micah and Ashton Cunningham of Philippi, Adam, Danny, Kevin and Alex Boise of Clarksburg. Step grandchildren: Logan and Ian Smithson of Belington, Cory Riffle of Buckhannon. Mr. Curkendall was preceded in death by his grandparents: John A. and Alta Gay Dorsey, John W. and Rachel C. Curkendall, two sisters: Ellen Mae Clise, Patricia McDaniel. In May 1970 Charlie became a partnership owner of Philippi Foodland until he retired in 2001 when the business was sold. He served in the US Army and the Army Reserves. Charlie was a member of the Philippi Fire Department for over 25 years, he was a member of the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday January 24, from 5-8 pm on Wednesday January 25, from 8 am- 8 pm on Thursday January 26, from 8 am- 1 pm the service hour with Pastor Tim Bleigh officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with military honours being accorded.

  11. So sorry to hear of your loss. I've known Charlie for over 40 years. I have such fond memories of him at Smith's Grocery and Smith's Supermarket. My prayers are with his family. God Bless you all.

  17. Very sorry. Mr. Curkendall was a good man and gave me a job when I needed one at Foodland many moons ago. He was a life long friend of the family and I always respected him.
