David Lee Tenney, age 71, a resident of Philippi, West Virginia passed away peacefully at the WV Caring Hospice Center in Elkins, WV on Saturday, February 21, 2026 following a brief illness.
He was born on June 19, 1954, a son of the late Cecil Gene Tenney and the late Norma Jean (Spotloe) Campbell.
David was united in marriage on August 20, 1977 to the late Linda Kay Taylor.
Surviving is one daughter, Melissa Brooke (Tenney) Estep and husband, David Estep, Morgantown; three grandchildren, Zachary Estep, Anna Estep, and Eli Estep, all of Morgantown.
David was preceded in death by his siblings, sister Diana Sue (Tenney) Varner and one brother Danny G. Tenney.
David graduated from Philip Barbour High School in 1972.
David worked at Kines Ford Motor before becoming an electrician and working as a coal miner. David was a man who enjoyed working with his hands and understanding how things worked. He had a special talent for working on cars and could often be found in the garage fixing and rebuilding his next project.
Music was also an important part of David’s life. He loved playing the guitar and listening to both rock and gospel music. He filled his life with songs that reflected his spirit and faith. Dave was always willing to lend a helping hand and his wisdom and humor will be missed and forever remembered.
Family and friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St., Philippi, on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Rick Price officiating. The request of cremation will be honored.

I am just learning of this terrible loss. I’m so sorry that I didn’t find out in time to attend the funeral. I had known Dave for many years. He was always very kind and helpful whenever he could. Several years ago he did some electrical work at my house and wouldn’t let me pay him a dime. He even brought along everything he needed, and said it was just extra wiring and outlet boxes that he had. Whether that was true, or if he had actually went out and bought the stuff for me I never knew. But that’s the kind of guy he was. He had a great sense of humor too. I saw him a couple of months ago, and we talked about the loss of Linda, and briefly about some of his health concerns, but he never let on anything that led me to believe that he was this sick. So this was quite a shock to me. I wish I would have known, so that I would have been able to go see him and say goodbye. He will definitely be missed. Not many good people like him left these days. Rest Easy Dave. It does offer me a bit of comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved Linda. He always said she was the love of his life. ❤️
