Elma Joy Kelley, age 102, a resident of Mountain Memories in Elkins, and a former resident of Philippi, passed away Wednesday October 4, 2023. Joy was born October 24, 1920 in Nestorville, WV a daughter of the late Cecil G. and Hazel V. (Marsh) Nestor. Joy was united in marriage to her husband Clifford G. Kelley who preceded her in death June 1, 2004.
Surviving are children, Nancy S. Hedrick of Grafton and Johnny G. Kelley of Clarksburg; grandchildren, Michael S. Criss of GA, J. Bradley Criss of MD, J. Thaddeus Kelley of Philippi, Jered G. Kelley of TN; step granddaughters, Tonya R. Wells of WV, and Melissa D. Baker of MD; 10 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; half sister, Patricia Evans; and half brother Cecil G. Nestor Jr. both of Philippi.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Helen V. Shaffer; and brother F. Gene Nestor.
Joy was a lifetime member of the Nestorville United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Barbour County Senior Center. Joy enjoyed sewing, reading, and gardening. Joy was the secretary for her husbands milk route business. Joy worked as Rosie the Riveter soldering radio parts during WWII. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday October 11, 2024 at 1 pm in the Nestorville Cemetery. A “Time of sharing Joy” will be held at the Nestorville Church following the graveside services.

She smiled and always had the very best stories. May her memory be a blessing.
Aunt Joy was one of a kind. She was such a hard worker. Her name suited her well she was always joyful. I always love stopping at her house to see her on my way to or from Virginia. When I was a little girl and we go to Grandma’s I would walk over to her house. I know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and I believe she is up there with the family that have gone on before her.
