Opal (Mitchell) Berger, age 92 a resident of Houston TX for the past 56 yrs. passed away Saturday August 28, 2010 in the Atria Assisted Living Center in Spring, TX. Mrs. Berger was born on October 19, 1917 in Arden, WV a daughter of the late Eilhue and Trone (Cross) Mitchell. Opal was the eight of thirteen children, she was a loving mother and wife. She was united in marriage to William J. Berger who preceded her in death in 1962. Surviving is:
One daughter: Vickie (Berger) Oldfield and husband William of Spring, TX
Granddaughter: Leslie Oldfield
Grandson: Jonathon Oldfield and wife Nichole
Three sisters: Haley Wright of North Madison, OH
Lela Reed
Violet Mouser both of Philippi
Mrs. Berger was preceded in death by five brothers: Elbern, Wilbern, Carl, Harry, and James Mitchell, four sisters: Thelma Keller, Edna Mitchell, Agnes Keller, and Rita Kennedy
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday September 3, from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday September 4, from 8 a.m. -2 p.m. the service hour with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in the Clemtown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Clemtown Cemetery c/o Georgia Allen Rt. 4 Box 153 A Philippi, WV 26416. Another familiar name joins so many of the old saints that I grew up to know in Clemtown. Mom spoke of Opal and the Mitchell family often and I loved to hear the stories. May God grant peace and many happy memories.
