  1. Pat is such a lovely person. And a wonderful nurse. I worked with her at Old Broaddus. She taught me a lot!

  2. I worked with Pat at Philip Barbour HIgh School for years.. She assisted me with some of my special needs students.. We grew very close and I always loved having her help me when caring for the students… We had some funny times and some serious ones.. She was one of the sweetest nurses I have ever known…So sorry to hear of her passing.. Prayers for Sam, children and grandchildren…for strength, comfort, and peace…
GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.. I loved her.

  3. Sam, Pam and Davie extending my sincere condolences. I was one of the “Pat Waid trainees” on OB @ Broaddus in the 60's; done always with a smile, gentle instruction and encouragement. Feeling your loss.

  4. Mrs. Waid was a big reason why I graduated high school and her Health Assistant class. When I wanted to give up she pushed me through. May God's grace push her family through and give them the peace and comfort that they need.

  5. I send my sincere condolences to Pat’s family and dearest friends. She will always hold a very special spot in my heart. I was one of Mrs Waid’s students whom she taught at PBHS. She served as my role model, inspiration, and mentor. Years later, I now have a career in advanced practice nursing, in which has stemmed from her. May you find comfort in knowing how much of an impact Pat made in many lives.

  6. Laurinda and I would like to extend our deapest sympathies. Pat like a mother to me and I will forever carry the nick name “monkey” with me. She is in a better place now and will be look over us. I regret that my work schedule will prohibit our attending the viewing and funeral However, I know that she would want us to continue our work, helping to provide quality care for others in their time of need across the state. God Bless

  7. What a dear lady this world has lost yet heaven gained. Mrs. Waid was my favorite teacher in high school, and impacted my life more than anyone could ever imagine. As she did many others. She had faith in me and was always an encourager. Please know that family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

  8. I met Pat in the early 90’s thru my affiliation with the Barbour County Emergency Squad. She was a
wonderful person and a fantastic teacher. I have only good memories of her. My she Rest In Peace.

  9. Mrs. Waid was my HOSA instructor 1999-2001. She gave me such a great knowledge of basic nursing fundamentals and always encouraged us to do our best. We kept her on her toes! I have often thought about her through the years, and wondered if she would remember me if I saw her. She was always my favorite. My prayers to those who hold her close.

  10. Pat Waid was a dear sister-in-law although we did not see much of each other in person over the past 30 years with me living in Texas. We did have phone conversations though. She was always smiling and could find humor in about anything. My own children remember with fondness their visit in their youth at the home of Uncle Sam and Aunt Pat of WV.

When Sam and Pat were married it was with a deep abiding love for one another that has stood the test of time without wavering. What a great example this has been to other family members! I was blessed to see this love in their home as they served one another and raised their children.

When finishing college at WVU in 1964 and dating my wife Carol Ann Berry of Weston it was Sam and Pat that would loan me their car to go see her because I had no car and couldn't afford one. You never forget these acts of kindness from your older brother and sister-in-law.

Pat was a huge support in love and kindness to her father in law and mother in law, Samuel T. and Francis Waid of Naples, FL. whom they visited frequently and were visited by them.

A lady of Christian faith Pat raised her daughter and adopted son on Christian values and principles which you can see in their lives and the lives of their grandchildren.

You have to admire a woman like Pat who loved learning and sacrificed to earned a masters degree in Nursing which she used in the service of others and support of her family. She was a shining example of hard work and the value of education.

This is the kind of person that represents the best of West Virginia.

I know I will see her on the other side of the vail and have a chance to know her as I did here in mortality. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we believe the marriage covenant does not have to end in mortality but can be preserved in immortality as well as the family unit. Sam and Pat deserve such as union for their faithful abiding love for one another. The resurrection is real and we will all benefit thanks to Christ's Atonement for all of us.

  11. Sam and family,
Remembering you from A-B days long ago. In this time of great sorrow you are thought of with sympathy and friendship. I remember Pat fondly. Her life seems to have been spent in great service to others.
Margaret Kyle Campbell, Class of 1961

  12. Pat will be sadly missed by alot of people, she taught me a lot more than anyone will ever know. She always took more time to help you understand any questions you had. Fly high Pat I will miss you, to we meet again. Prayers for all the family.

  13. I am saddened to hear of her passing. Mrs. Waid was my teacher at the Vo Tech during my high school days 94-98. I loved having her for my teacher she taught me a lot! Prayers to all that knee and loved her!

  14. Dear Family,
Just now seen this and would like you to know that Pat helped deliver all three of my children. When I birthed the third, I told her I would name it after her. Daniel PAT Stalnaker is a hospitalist at DMC. She was the best! Peace
    Charolette Ann Stalnaker Fretwell
