Robert TRUE

Robert “Buck” True, age 88, a resident of Dogwood St. Philippi passed away Sunday July 10, 2016 in Talbott Personal Care in Belington. Buck was born January 7, 1928 in Barbour Co., a son of the late Clifford “Tip” True and Lucy (Parsons) True. On December 29, 1949 he was united in marriage to Patricia (Marsh) True who survives. Also surviving One son; Robert True Jr. and wife Kathy of Luarel Creek Rd. Moatsville One grandchild: Candice Stone and husband Jeff of Philippi Two great grandchildren; Mitchell and Clayton Stone of Philippi Three sisters; Wilda Moran of Century Louise Ward of Century Marian Kelly of Philippi Several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by grandson Clifford Noble True, three sisters, Marlene (True) Smith, Martha (True) Payne and Gloria (True) Vance, three brothers, William True, Raymond True, and James True Buck was an active member of the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church and a certified lay leader in the Methodist Charge. He was a member of the American Legion Post #44, Bigelow Lodge #59 AF& AM and belonging to the Scottish Rite Body, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #41. Buck also served his country in the Merchant Marines and in the United States Army in World War II, serving in the Philippines. He enjoyed playing golf, singing, square dancing, playing guitar and piano, and working with civic and church organizations. He received his early education in the Barbour County Schools, welding school in Newport News, VA and took courses in civil and mining engineering from Scranton, VA. He worked in several different coal mines in WV in various positions and was superintendent at Hackers Creek Coal Co. In 1975 he took a position with the Federal Government as a Federal Mine Inspector and held that position until retirement in 1992. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday July 11, from 3-8 pm and on Tuesday July 12, from 8 am- 1 pm the service hour with Rev. Sam Haught officiating. Interment will follow in the Marsh Cemetery at Tacy with flag presentation accorded. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 122 South High St. Morgantown, WV 26501.

  11. My sympathy to the True family. My dad worked with Buck years ago. We lived in Century. I went to school with many of the True family, Joan, Page, Jim and Gloria. My thoughts are with the family during this time of sadness.

  12. We both were so sorry to hear of the passing of Buck. He was such a nice man. We were eating at Diane's in Belington last July and Buck, Mrs.True, and Mr. & Mrs. Orland Crouse were there. Ron spent time reminiscing with Buck and I reminised and I reminisced with the Crouse's, which all were a part of our childhood days. We all enjoyed talking about the “ole days” He was always so friendly & so kind. RIP; Buck.

  13. Buck was a good guy and a good mine inspector. I'll miss seeing him at the Fellowsville, VFD, eating buckwheat cakes. Sorry for your loss.

  14. I knew Buck for just a short time, 20 years. I found him to be a sweet loving man of faith who brightened the day of those who came in contact with. God blessed us with his presence and now heaven is the more brighter. May we all share that light in the time to come. My family will hold you up in prayers before God that he bless you in this time.   16. I am so sorry to hear of “Buck's” passing. He was one of my favorite people. When I was much younger, I truly enjoyed his Sunday school classes. He will be missed by many!
