Victor "Vic" Glen Shaffer

February 3, 1937 ~ October 12, 2024

Victor “Vic” Glen Shaffer 87, also known as Jed to his family. Went to be with our lord and be reunited with the love of his life, Norma Sollinger Shaffer on October 12, 2024 at 9:06am at Ohio Living Lake Vista in Cortland, Ohio. Victor was born at home on Pifer Mountain in Tucker County, West Virginia on February 3, 1937 to Edison and Goldia Jones Shaffer. Victor attended Newton Falls Schools in Newton Falls, Ohio. Victor enlisted in the United States Army at 17 years old and proudly served his country. He was a tank gunner stationed at Schofield Barracks on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Victor married the love of his life Norma Sollinger Shaffer on June 15th 1963 and shared 57 years of marriage before his wife’s death on September 27, 2020. Together they share two daughters, Rhonda Lynn Shaffer of Champion, Ohio and Kara Lee Shaffer Bailey of Newton Falls, Ohio. Victor retired after 28 years from General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio. He was always very proud to say he was able to retire at 57 years old. Victor enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, riding his motorcycle, camping and telling some of the best stories anyone ever heard. He enjoyed hunting both archery and with a gun in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia alongside his son/grandson Gary Shaffer, Grandson Kevin Yarger, son in law Jeff Yarger and his buddy Ron Deak. He also enjoyed many years hunting with his Uncle Walter Jones who he thought of and loved like a brother and many cousins in West Virginia. Victor will be sadly missed by his sister Judith (Jerald) Armstrong of Cortland, Ohio, Rhonda Shaffer of Champion, Ohio, Kara Bailey of Newton Falls, Ohio and a grandson/son Gary Shaffer of Newton Falls. 7 grandchildren, Gary Shaffer, Kayla Yarger, Kevin (Jamie) Yarger, Kyle Bailey and Ashlyn Bailey and fiance Bannon Elston. 4 great grandchildren Logan Yarger, Lincoln Yarger, Izzy Yarger and soon to be born Makenzi Elston. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his wife Norma Shaffer. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Ohio Living Lake Vista in Cortland, Ohio. Particularly “Bri” who was a caregiver and special friend to our father. Also to Hospice for their love and care both to our father and our family. Friends and family will be received from 12pm to 2pm, Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi, West Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Pifer Mountain Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Belington Post #96 and the US Army. In lieu of flowers we ask that a tree is planted in our fathers name or that donations are made to Healthy Hearts and Paws in Warren, Ohio.

  1. I am sorry for your loss. I never had the opportunity to spend much time with him and there was a big age gap between us. But, he was a very likeable fellow and never at a loss for words. I’ll tell any of you at the next reunion about something he told me at a reunion a few years back. Take your grief to the Lord, His ear is always listening and His heart is tender for you and your pain. I love you all.

    I am sorry that you passed away. You lived a long life too make it to 87 and with everything to be proud of it! Your reunited with your late wife up in heaven, had a great career by working 28 years at GM, My regards go to your son, grandson, son in law, sisters, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the rest of the Shaffer family and Mr. Shaffer now that your gone by all means Rest In Peace.
