Willard Carpenter

Willard L. Carpenter, age 98, a resident of Good Samaritan Society of Barbour County passed away Monday June 10, 2013 in Broaddus Hospital. He was born March 23, 1915 in Upshur County a son of the late Roy and Ida Carpenter. He was united in marriage October 25, 1936 to Mavis H. (Snyder) Carpenter who preceded him in death on October 3, 2005. Surviving is One daughter; Norma Poling and husband Robert of Nestorville Community One son; Larry Carpenter and wife Karen of Belington Two sisters; Opal Page of Buckhannon Dama Stockard of Bridgeport Three brothers; Olen Carpenter of Buckhannon Hugh Carpenter of Ohio Hubert Carpenter of North Carolina Four grandchildren; Debbie Golden, Crystal Suder, Chad Carpenter, Pam Zaborowisky Several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by one son; Calvin Carpenter, one sister; Avis Couger, and one brother; Doyle Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was a retired coal miner and was a carpenter for Z & C Construction. He enjoyed gardening and squirrel hunting, looking for ginseng, and loved the outdoors. Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Corley United Methodist Church. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday June 11, from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday June 12, from 8-11 am the service hour with Rev. David Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Barbour Memorial Cemetery.
