William Elmer Jacobs

William “Bill” Elmer Jacobs, age 80, a resident of Flemington, passed away Thursday February 22, 2024, in the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV. Bill was born April 6, 1943, in Barbour County, a son of the late Frank E. and Tressie Marie (Perry) Jacobs. Bill was united in marriage on April 20, 1961, to Shirley L. (McVicker) Jacobs. Bill loved to fish and hunt, it would nothing for him to be out all day during hunting season. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Bill enjoyed being around people socializing, he was one that never met a stranger. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Kitt Energy and was a member of UMWA District #31. Surviving is his wife Shirley; children Dianna Wright and husband Clarence, William “Billy” Jacobs Jr., Gerry Jacobs, Donna Greathouse and husband Karl; grandchildren Megan Davis, Erin Davis, Caitlin Davis, Nicholas Wright, Christopher Wright and wife Katrina, Timothy Wright, Annie Wright, and Kayla Greathouse; great-grandchildren Eddie Ryan Poole, Giovanna Wright, Emma Wright, Elizabeth Wright, Addyson Wright, Nathan Wright; brother Ray Jacobs and wife Bobbi Jo; several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Tressie Jacobs; sisters Betty Jo Hudkins, and Frances Crowe. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday February 27, from 3-8 pm and on Wednesday February 28, from 10am- 12 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 pm with Pastor Jon Villers officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

  2. My deepest sympathy to the family and friends. I still recall visiting with the whole family as child back in the 70’s and early 80’s, watching Bill work on a truck, scheme for the hunt, tell a great story, and crack that grin. He lived a very full life, and we will all miss him dearly. Praying for the family during this time of grief.

  4. I have such wonderful memories of my dear cousin Bill. He and Shirley always made you feel so welcomed and loved when you visited their home.
    Bill and I would laugh and talk about all the great times, as children we had at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Bill was such a giving person, always willing to share his bounty, talents and hunting skills with everyone. He loved nature and all of God’s creations. Shirley, Diana, Billy, Gerry and Donna thank you for sharing such a sweet and kind man with us all, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
