Rev. William “Bill” Preston Smith Sr., age 79 a resident of Volga passed away Thursday June 16, 2016 at his residence. He was born September 9, 1936 in Wichita, Kansas a son of the late Preston Davis and Thelma Mae (Millsap) Smith. Bill was united in marriage on July 12, 1958 to Elsie Marie (Jesse) Smith who survives. Also surviving
Four children; Maria Louise Little and husband Michael of Dunkirk, IN
Thelma Jean Randolph and husband Stephen of Clarksburg
Ann Kathryn Kerwood and husband George of Clinton, MD
William Preston Smith Jr. and wife Bonnie of New Martinsville, WV
One sister; Sharon George of Wichita, Kansas
Nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren
Bill was preceded in death by one daughter Shawn Kathleen Schumm, three sisters, one adopted sister, and one brother.
He served in the US Navy from 1955-59 and was stationed in California and Guam, He received his B.S. degree from Mid-Atlantic Bible College in 1986; attended Winebrenner Seminary; and was received in transfer by 1989. Bill was active in the Heart and Hand Ministries in Philippi, and was active in all the church’s he served in, Pine Grove-Jacksonburg 1988, Friendship Charge 1992, Nestorville 1994, Tennerton 2000, Johnson Ave 2004 and retired this same year, after retirement he went back to minster Crossroads 2009 and Volga Charge 2013
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday June 20, from 11am – 2 pm the service hour with Speaker Brad Dumire officiating. Interment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors being accorded.
