Beatrice Matlick Harshberger Chapman a resident of Good Samaritan Society of Barbour Co. went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2022. She was born August 12, 1932 near Tunnelton, Preston County. She was the daughter of the late Nellie (Harvey) Matlick and James Kenneth Matlick.
On October 31, 1951 she married James Mearl Harshberger who is deceased.
Surviving are one daughter, Sherry Collier and late husband Pete of Philippi, three sons, Kendle Harshberger (Rosetta) of Hopedale, OH, Stephen Harshberger (Connie) of Moatsville, WV, and Scot Harshberger (Denise) of Thornton, WV. Four grandsons Daniel Collier (Jennifer) of Junior, WV, Benjamin Collier (Kristen) of Eighty-Four, PA, James Kendle Harshberger of Fairmont, WV, and Jules Harshberger of Moatsville, WV, One granddaughter Ashley Harshberger of Chicago, Il.
Three great grandsons, Joseph Chase Collier (Jasmine), Charlie Collier and Thomas Scot.
Also surviving two sisters, Karen Baylor of Kingwood, WV, and Karolyn Bartok of Vermilion, OH, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother James Dale Matlick, two sisters Helena Ridenour and Beulah Ridenour. Also second husband Paul Chapman.
She was a homemaker and a farmer. Beatrice was a graduate of Fellowsville High School, class of 1950 where she was a cheerleader and represented the school as Maid of Honor in the Buckwheat Festival of 1949.
She served as treasurer of the Fellowsville Alumni Association. She worked as secretary of Fellowsville School. She has been a member of the Mt. Morris United Methodist Church for many years where she served as teacher, church treasurer, communion steward and president of the Mt. Morris Homecoming. A former member of the Nestorville United Methodist Church, served as a member of the Praise Team, Ladies Aid and the adult choir and teacher.
A member of the Nestorville Senior Citizens. Also a member of Phelps WVCEOS where she served a secretary, treasurer and president and vice president.
She served on the County Committee for the Farmers Home Administration. She was a member of the Fruits, Grains, and Vegetable Committee for the Barbour Co. Fair. She loved to exhibit the products of her work at the Fair including garden stuff, canned food, sewing and crafts, and later loved working with Paul on his wood crafts. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday August 14, from 5-8 pm and on Monday August 15, from 8- 11 am. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am with Pastor Larry Poling and Pastor Downing Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Morris Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Morris United Methodist Church c/o Connie Freeman 1085 Richman Rd. Moatsville, WV 26405.
