Bedford “Bud” Wilfong, Jr., age 91, a resident of Belington, passed away Monday October 30, 2023, in Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Bud was born March 19, 1932, in Rosemont, WV a son of the late Bedford Wilfong, Sr. and Mary Magdeline (Trussler) Wilfong. Bud was twice married first to Joan (Haymond) Wilfong who preceded him in death on June 7, 2005, second to Dorothy (McCauley) Pharis who survives at home.
Also surviving are three sons, Rick Wilfong and wife Debbie of Philippi, Timothy Wilfong and wife Rachelle of Burnsville, Larry Wilfong and wife Tonda of Moatsville; four daughters, Patricia Burkhammer of Flemington, Victoria Parks and husband Robert of Galloway, Cynthia Lawson and husband Steve of Flemington, Jo Ellen Lawson and husband Randy of Mt. Clare; step-children, Stephen Pharis, Jeffery Pharis, Patrick Pharis, Anthony Pharis, Pamela Winans, and Sharon “Diane” Mullan all of Belington; 21 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, three great-great children and one expected great-great grandchild; 20 step- grandchildren, 37 step-great grandchildren, and five step great-great grandchildren; brother, John Wilfong of Flemington; sisters Shirley Frum of Rosemont, and Mary Henley of Ohio.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents Bedford and Mary Wilfong; wife Joan; son Matthew Wilfong; siblings Icy, Louise, Denver, George, Raymond, Charles, Nettie, Janet, Velva, and Harold.
Bud served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Kitt Energy with 31 years of service as a coal miner. Bud was a member of the UMWA and the REAP at Holy Trinity Church. He loved to hunt, fish, and to play music. Bud enjoyed writing poems; he had written his own book of Poems entitled Pap’s Stories. Bud was known to many as Pap, he was a loving and caring person. He was always happy and joking with anyone that was around him. No one was a stranger to Bud. He touched so many people in the 91 years on this earth.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday November 3, from 11 am- 8 pm and on Saturday November 4, from 10am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Reverend Patty Post officiating. Interment will follow in the Point Pleasant Cemetery with military honors being accorded.
