Betty Jean “Polly” Smallridge, age 99, a resident of Rosewood Nursing Facility in Grafton, and a former resident of Flemington, passed away Tuesday July 30, 2024. Polly was born December 15, 1924 in Dartmoor a daughter of the Vivian Isaac and Anna Gladys (Hillyard) Smallridge.
Polly worked as a housekeeper for Broaddus Hospital. She was a member of Astor United Methodist Church. She enjoyed shopping, her favorite holiday was Christmas. She also liked to go eat at different restaurants, Shoney’s and Bonanza were the ones she frequented most.
Polly is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by sisters Dortha Louise Shaw, Patricia Ann DeMarco, and Mary Ella Stutler; and brother Carl A. Smallridge.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and aides at Rosewood Nursing Facility for the exceptional care that was given to Polly.
Family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday August 5, from 4-8 pm and on Tuesday August 6, from 10am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 1 pm with Rev. Lois Sandy officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
