On March 23, 2014, Carrie Lee Thompson, age 76 went to be with the Lord. At 3:45 p.m. when she took her last breath surrounded by loved ones. This was preceded by a brief two week illness at Camden Clark Hospital, in Parkersburg. Carrie also fought valiantly against multiple myeloma for the past five years.
Carrie was born June 3, 1937 in Barbour Co. a daughter of the late John D. and Lorea Cleavenger. She graduated from Philippi High School and Morgantown Business College. She has lived in Parkersburg since 1975 and retired from Westbrook Health two years ago. She was a charter member of Wells Baptist Church. She loved studying the Bible, traveling to Wyoming and reading books.
She is survived by son, Gerald Thompson of Parkersburg and Mike (Tracy) Thompson of Casper, Wyoming. Five grandchildren; Michael, Matthew and Samuel Thompson of Wyoming: Sherry and Aaron Thompson of West Virginia.
Also survived by sister, Jean (Blair) Curkendall of Washington, WV and brother, John D. (Judy) Cleavenger of Lumberport, WV. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. She was also survived by her great-granddaughter, Hailee Renee Thompson born in December.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Wednesday, March 26 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Thursday, March 27 from 8 am-1 pm the service hour with Pastor Brian K. Author officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carrie’s memory to Mineral Wells Baptist Church- P.O. Box 123 Mineral Wells, WV 26150
