Danny J. Lewis, age 73, a resident of Philippi passed away Sunday November 25, 2018 in Ruby Memorial Hospital. Danny was born August 25, 1945 on Beverly, WV a son of the late Gilbert “Bo” and Eva N. (Simmons) Lewis. Danny was united in marriage to his loving wife on August 7, 1971 Patricia L. (Moats) Lewis who survives at home. Also surviving

Danny was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Wentz, and Shirley Coontz; and one brother, Richard Lewis. Danny worked for the City of Philippi from 1967 until his retirement in 2000 where he worked as water superintendent. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. Danny was at lifetime member of VFW Post #410 where he served as post commander, he was also a member of the American Legion Post #29 in Elkins, the Philippi Volunteer Fire Department, and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church where he served as Usher.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday November 27, from 3-8 pm. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm to conclude the visitation. Visitation will resume on Wednesday November 28, from 8 -10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Binu Sebastian as Celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Bryan Memorial Mausoleum with military honors being accorded.

In reality I think the thing I liked most about Danny was his directness if thats a word. You never had a problem figuring where Danny was coming from, he just told you. He lived his life just as he wanted, and if you didn't agree that was ok, but you were not going to change Danny. Wouldn't life be so much simpler if we were all that way. Old friend we are all facing this fate, just like you always have you are just leading the way.

Please accept our most sincere sympathy in the passing of Danny. We remember fondly him greeting us at the doors of St. Elizabeth's Church when we were members there. We know he will be mossed by many.

While we did not see each other often, I will always remember time spent with Uncle Dan on our visits to West Virginia when we were kids. My sincerest sympathies; everyone is in my prayers. ~ Monica

Little brother: I am sorry in your passing and my condolences to Patty. Living in CA since 64 I didn't have much contact but I still have much feelings in his passing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Many good memories of Danny. He had a big heart and was a very caring man.

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to all of Danny’s family. For right now, there’s no detour around grief, no shortcut through mourning. However, 2 Cor.4:7 says that God can give us, “... power beyond what is normal...”, to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget. It means we recover. We recover because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28 which says, “...all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out...”. Jesus was referring to the resurrection. That is our amazing hope! The Bible likens our hope to an anchor. Just like an anchor stabilizes a ship, our hope stabilizes us and keeps us from drowning in overwhelming sadness. One way that God comforts us today is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. So sorry to hear about Danny I went to High school with him he always picked on me about the Nascar Races!
