Danny Ray Stone, age 64, a resident of Pleasant Creek Rd. Philippi, passed away Friday April 21, 2023 in Ruby Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Danny was born May 31, 1958 in Grafton, WV a son of Vernon Ray “Bud” Stone and Bertie Mae (Zirkle) Stone. Danny was united in marriage to Pamela Jo (Coffman) Stone on February 9, 1977.
Also surviving are children; Melissa “Punkin” Lyons and husband Jerry of Grafton, Jeffery Stone and wife Candice of Philippi; grandchildren, Stefen Parks and wife Jordan, Savanna Lyons, Mitchell and Clayton Stone; great grandchildren, Georgy Parks, and expected great grandchild Michael Ray Parks; siblings, Sheila Braddock and husband Joseph of Independence, Kenneth “Kenny” Stone and wife Loretta of Newburg, Wilma Summers of Newburg, and Dennis Stone of Newburg; close nephew, KW Stone and wife Ginny, as well as additional nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, Aunts and Uncles; special cousins, Scotty Swiger and wife Jackie of Grafton, Junie “June Bug” Robinson of Philippi, Mike Bowman and companion Rita of Grape Run Rd.; Best friends, John Hyde, and Larry Norris of Philippi.
Danny was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenny and Burley Stone; Emily Shreve and Daniel Boone Zirkle of Maybe, WV; Uncle Jerry Stone; Father and Mother-in-law, Cleo and Shirley Coffman; sister-in-law, Kay Robinson; Brother-in-law, Robert Coffman.
Danny started his farming career working for Morris Jennings, he retired from the coal mines after 42 years of service. Laurel Mountain was the first mines he started working in and continued with working at Kitt Energy, Redbone Mines, Ten Mile Mines, Kingwood/Whitetail Coal Mines, Four West Mines, Squires Creek and various other mines. Lastly, he worked for Parcs Equipment as a Head Tractor Mechanic. Farming ran thru Danny’s blood is an understatement, he spent many hours in the fields harvesting hay and watching his cattle grow. He sold feed, corn, and other items to the local farmers. Danny enjoyed working on equipment, if someone’s equipment broke down, they could call Danny and he would never turn anyone down he was always helping people no matter what. He loved his family, and spending time with them especially his children and grandchildren. Danny enjoyed hunting for mushrooms and taking the grandchildren hunting. Danny was known to take evening naps on the porch swing. He would even sneak off during the day to visit Bob and Cathy True, for coffee time. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he impacted.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday April 25, from 9am- 8 pm and on Wednesday April 26, from 8 am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm. Interment will follow in the Mount Israel Cemetery in Preston County.
