David Colvin Mellquist, age 76, left his broken earthly body for heaven on October 9th surrounded by his family singing Victory in Jesus.

David was born May 12, 1941 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, a son of the late Orville K. Mellquist and the late Margaret N. Foulk Mellquist.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen K. Mellquist. He is also survived by his daughters and son-in-laws; Bronlynn & Bill Morlan of Gassaway, WV, Koreen & Jon Villers of Philippi, WV and Danyl & Rick Freeman of Moorefield, WV. He is survived by his grandchildren, Bryson & Leandra Morlan of Buckhannon, WV, Jarren Morlan of Gassaway, WV & his fiance’ Courtney Dean of Mt. Nebo, WV, Tyler Morlan of Gassaway, WV & his girlfriend Nikki Lake of Hacker Valley, WV, Kenton Morlan of Gassaway, WV, Caleb & Maci Villers of Summersville, WV, Aaron & Callie Freeman of Arlington, VA, Logan & Contessa Morlan of Gassaway, WV, Allison Villers, Thomas Villers, Robert Villers of Philippi, WV and Reagan Freeman of Moorefield, WV. He is also survived by 2 great grandchildren, Reed Morlan of Buckhannon, WV and Eliora Morlan of Gassaway, WV.

He is survived by his siblings; Robert Mellquist and wife Darlene of Baltimore, OH; Bronwyn Mellquist and husband Roe Smith of Newton, Massachusetts; and Jocelyn Robison and husband Ron of New Eagle, PA, and nieces and nephews.

David was a 1963 graduate of Alderson Broaddus College. During his life he served as an x-ray technician at Broaddus Hospital, St Joe’s Hospital, Latrobe Hospital and WVU Hospital. He also was a salesman for Picker International and Fisher International. He owned and operated his own home improvement company DavHel Enterprises, and pastored several churches in the Monongahela Baptist Association with his last pastorate being at First Southern Baptist of Fairmont. He was currently serving as the Monongahelia Baptist Association Missionary. David was also a member of the Tennerton Lions Club. His most rewarding work was doing the Lord’s work as a deacon, pastor and association missionary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to People’s Hospice, 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330. Family & Friends will be received at Wright’s Funeral Home in Philippi, WV on Wednesday, October 11th from 4-8 p.m., also at Wayside Baptist Church in Buckhannon, WV on Thursday, October 12th from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Wayside Baptist Church in Buckhannon, WV at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 13th. Interment will be at Hazelgreen Cemetery in Ritchie County, WV.

Dear cousins, My thoughts and prayers are with you. I've been following the family updates on FB and am so sorry for your loss. But it warms my heart to know David was ushered into heaven with a song of victory in Jesus. Being left behind is heartbreaking but knowing we'll all be together forever is comforting. I loved watching the video and seeing Aunt Margaret and Uncle Orville once again, along with family I haven't seen in years or ever met. I knew David thru the Lions Organization. He was a gentle man who loved to give of himself in any way he could serve. I loved and will miss his Duck Call, pleasant demeanor, and positive attitude at the Lions meetings. My prayers and thoughts are with his family at this time. Just saw this on Facebook. So sorry to hear about David. He was a good man and Christian. Brings back a lot if good memories. Ibam sure he will be missed.

Sending my deepest condolences to Dave's family and friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Dave almost 9 years ago when he trained me to take over his position at St. Joseph's Hospital due to his retirement. He was such a caring and selfless man. He periodically would stop in after he retired to check to see how I was doing. I pray for comfort for his family during this emotional time.

Helen and family I'm so sorry to hear about Dave's passing. He was a wonderful man and former co-worker. Thank for allowing me the pleasure of being his nurse. He will be missed.

David was a great man of God, we will miss him! 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 " Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God."

May God's tender love be with him through eternity. And may the love of Jesus be with all of his family during this time.

Praying our God give you comfort and peace during this time of great sadness. We grieve with Helen and David’s family, however he has graduated to his reward and for that we rejoice. David was truly a blessing to all who knew him and his passing has left us all with a deep sense of loss.

Helen and family, Les & I are saddened at your loss but rejoice that David is home at last. Rev. and Mrs. Mellquist are very well thought of by mutual friends and that was a high recommendation. Over the years, we worked together on several occasions. It was my honor and pleasure to know him.

Wayne and I were saddened to hear of David's passing, but in the midst of your grief, we are praying that the Lord will fill your hearts with loving memories of David and that He will give you comfort and peace of heart knowing that David is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

As a minister of Christ, David shared the "Good News" of the Gospel presenting God's Holy Word to a needy world. Last week David was welcomed to his heavenly home by the Lord himself. Unless I miss my guess there was a choir of angels singing in the background. He is enjoying what the rest of us can only dream of, a place to live prepared for us by the "Carpenter" Himself. Part of me is turning green with envy, in a Christian sort of way! The Mellquist family and ours were close neighbors and all our girls enjoyed sleepovers and doing whatever it is girls do... they certainly didn't sleep! Helen and Carolyn would enjoy taking walks in the evenings. Way back then David and I were both salesmen for Picker X-Ray Company and shared many hours together as I picked his brain on how to be a better salesman. Dave and I also shared one other passion; hearts that longed to be in the ministry. So did our wives and families. Although we took different paths to get there, we both spent many years doing what we knew God had called us to do. To Helen and the extended family we want to say; thank you for your friendship, your faithfulness to God's calling, and for being the kind of people others want to follow.
