David Hugh Runion, age 76, a resident of Philippi, passed away Friday June 7, 2024 in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. David was born November 18, 1947 in Philippi, a son of the late Howard and Frankie (Phillips) Runion. On June 26, 1971 he married the love of his life Marilyn (Hibbs) Runion whom he adored for 53 years.
David proudly served in the US Navy and the Naval Reserve, he retired December 1995 with 28 years of service for his country. Upon retiring he held the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. David was a lifetime member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association. He graduated from Philip Barbour High School class of 1966. After graduation he attended and graduated from WV Business College with an Associates Degree in Business Administration. David was member of the Philippi Baptist Church. He was also a master barber, he was very proud and loved his car collection. David was someone who could fix anything and enjoyed working on his cars, equipment and tending to his property.
David was a member of the Bigelow Lodge No. 52 in Philippi, WV. He became a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Clarksburg on November 5, 1977. On November 19, 1983 he was invested with the rank and decoration of Knight Commander of the Court of Honour, and on October 5, 1999 was coronetted an Inspector General Honorary 33rd Degree by the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite. David also holds membership in the Philippi Chapter No. 41, Order of the Eastern Star since 1978.
David leaves behind his loving wife Marilyn; brother Jimmy Runion; sister-in-law Carolyn Davis and husband George; nephew Christopher Runion and wife Stephanie, Charles Davis and wife Tani; nieces Kelly Clyde and husband Justin, Georgann Davis, Susan Heck; great nieces Megan Davis and her son Ryan Poole, Erin Davis, Caitlyn Davis; great nephews Keaton, Titus, and Hayden Clyde.
The family ask that flowers be omitted, and memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory, 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday June 13, from 11:30 am -12:30 pm. A graveside service will be held at 1 pm at the Bryan Memorial Mausoleum with Pastor Jon Villers officiating. Masonic graveside rites will be accorded by the Bigelow Lodge No. 52.
