Doris C. Miller, age 85, a resident of Rt. 1 Moatsville, passed away Saturday June 5, 2010 in Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born October 4, 1924 in Barbour Co. a daughter of the late Carlton W. and Gertrude Z. (White) Cook. Doris was twice married first in August of 1946 to John Myrl Hoffman who preceded her in death on January 26, 1963, and second on September 25, 1965 to Jack W. Miller who survives. Also surviving is:

Two step-daughters; Ellen Shaffer and husband Ronald of St. George, WV
Cheryl Shimp and husband Nathan of Canton, GA
Two sisters; Nina V. Richardson, of Woodland Retirement Community in Huntington, WV
Agnes Mae Hewitt and husband Henry of Parkersburg, WV
Four grandchildren; Emily Shaffer, Tyler Shaffer, Bradley Shaffer, LeAnn Rose Bamberger
Numerous nieces and nephews
Doris was preceded in death by one brother; W. Dever Cook, and step-daughter; Rebecca Miller
Doris worked as the Barbour County Executive Director for the US Department of Agriculture ASCS with 28 years of service. She also was owner and operator of Miller Realty Inc. She was a member of the OES Chapter #41, the Dorcas Rebekah Lodge #275, and the Crim Memorial United Methodist Women. Doris was also a lifetime member of the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday June 7, from 6-8 p.m. with the OES Chapter #41 conducting services at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday June 8, from 8 a.m. -8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8-9 a.m. at which time Doris will be moved to the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church to lie in state from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Rev. Alicia Rapking officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
