Dorothy Lee Hershman Haller

Dorothy Lee Hershman Haller, age 101, a resident of Tacy Community, Philippi, passed away at her childhood home on Tuesday August 1, 2023 surrounded by loved ones and under the care of Mountain Hospice.

She was born December 29, 1921 at Philippi, WV.  She was a daughter of the late Lorenzo Lee and Blanche (Freeman) Hershman.

Her husband of 70 years, Vernon “Bill” Haller, whom she married on April 4, 1942 preceded her in death.  She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters Beatrice Marsh and Betty B. Marsh and brothers, Buey, Lee and Edwin Hershman.

Dorothy was a 1940 graduate of Philippi High School.  She retired from the Bank of America in Baltimore, MD where she and her husband resided for 52 years prior to their return to WV.  She enjoyed watching golf and sports on TV, playing golf, going for country road drives, spending time with her family and in her younger days hunting and fishing.  She was a member of the Tacy Crossroads United Methodist Church.

A special thank you goes to Linda and Mary who were Dorothy’s faithful caregivers for 4 years.  The loving care they gave to her will always be remembered by the family.  An additional thank you is given to Charlene and Wanda who assisted with Dorothy’s care during the last few weeks of her life.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tacy Crossroads United Methodist Church c/o Mary Poling 210 McKinely Dr. Moatsville, WV 26405.  At Dorothy’s request, there will be a private memorial.  Burial will be at the Tacy Crossroads Cemetery.
