Dorothy H. Wolfe age 94 a resident of Mansfield Place, Philippi passed away Monday, December 30, 2013. She was born December 1, 1919 in Fairmont, WV a daughter of the late Victoria Eva Phillips and Jesse Harman. At the age of four, she was adopted by her great Aunt and Uncle, Madge Louise Auvil and Granville Cicero Holsberry. She was united in marriage October 8, 1946 in Oakland, Maryland to A.J. Wolfe, Jr. who preceded her in death. Surviving is,

Ms. Wolfe attended Barbour County schools, and was in the first Belington High School graduating class. She graduated Alderson-Broaddus College with a Bachelor’s degree and from West Virginia University with a master’s degree.

She then taught for one year at University High School in Morgantown, and then taught for three years at Mannington High School. After marriage, Dorothy and A.J. lived in Clarksburg for five years, St. George for three years before moving to Philippi in 1955. She taught at Philippi High School and later Philip-Barbour High School until retiring.

THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION AT THE FUNERAL HOME. Family and Friends will form at Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014 and will travel to Floral Hills Memorial Garden Cemetery in Quiet Dell for Entombment services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Entombment will follow in the Everlasting Mausoleum.

It is certainly good to see that Mrs. Wolfe had a long life. I had her for two classes at PBHS. She had a gentleness about her that would be very rare to find these days in a teacher. Sorry for your loss David.

David, We both had your mother as a teacher at PBHS. She was a very special lady. Our thoughts are with you.

David, thank you for allowing our staff at Mansfield Place to care for your Mother, we all loved her. We enjoyed the beautiful flowers you sent her regularly and the drawer full of candy that she always wanted to share.

I was fortunate to have Mrs. Wolfe as my typing teacher. I was one of her helpers and still have the glass shoe she gave me that was in '68 or '69. My mother is also at Mansfield Place so I was able to say hi to her a couple times when I was there. Your mother was a very kind lady.

I did not really know Dorothy, but I was at foodland one day getting groceries, and so was she, we came out at the same time, but at different stores, and she tripped on something, and she fell down, I ran and got paper towels out of my car, called 911 on my cell, and stayed with her until the EMS came, she seemed like a very nice lady. God Bless her family.
