Pastor Douglas Edward Hogan, age 52, a resident of Rt. 2 Belington passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009 in the Broaddus Hospital Emergency Room. He was born June 13, 1957 in Schenectady, New York a son of William D. Hogan and the late Shirley Ann (Vyshrad) Hogan. He was united in marriage June 30, 1978 to Janice Kathryn (Gouley) Hogan who survives. Also surviving is:

One daughter, Kathryn Marie Hogan

Two sons, Benjamin James Hogan
William Vernon Hogan, all of Belington

One sister, Barbara Ann Hogan, Bradenton, FL

Grandmother, Esther Hogan of Schenectady, NY

Doug served in the US Navy from 1975-80
Pastor Hogan was a full time servant of the most high living God, he served as a Missionary full time overseas in Malaysia, after returning he served as youth pastor in the Christian Missionary Alliance in Morgantown. Pastor Hogan most recent position was senior pastor for the Living Water Church at Philippi. He was active in the church planting of the Christian Missionary Alliance called operation WV. Doug was an avid outdoorsman which he enjoyed hunting, fishing and also woodworking.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday December 8, from 4-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday December 9, from 8:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. the service hour with Rev. Ken Kelley officiating. Military honours will be accorded in the Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Hogan’s request for cremation will be honored and will follow the services on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Christian and Missionary Alliance for the Great Commission Fund PO Box 35000 Colorado Springs, CO 80935-3500. I have been looking up family members that have been lost. I am so sorry for the loss of my cousin Doug. He was such a good person. God bless.

Jan, It's been decades since we last spoke, and am so saddened to be re-connected through Doug's passing. You and Doug are both such a big part of my fondest memories from our high school years together. Doug had such a sunny disposition when I was around him, and was always proud to call him my friend--he truly was one of the good guys! I can tell through the various postings here that his life service to the Lord was faithful and that the impact he made on others lives profound. And for all who knew him, our lives are richer because of him, and his memory will leave smiles in our hearts forever. A wonderful man has left us. He was natuarally supportive and radiated Christ. I was so lucky to have meet him even for a short time. I feel i was lucky to have been given the chance to attend the church he pastored and the family he was part of. Thanks for everything. My prayers are with you Jan and the kids. I am so sorry to here about Doug I enjoyed his company many times in school,We both had a father who was a cop so had something in common he will be missed im sure i am sorry we lost contact when we went into the service him a Navy man and myself Army. I have so many memories of the Hogans at Dalat. I taught Billy in third grade and his parents were always so encouraging to a new single teacher. One of my favorite memories is of Doug coming into our on-campus house and peeling a huge monitor lizard off the shower curtain. (It scared our student teacher silly!) He just took the thing by the tail and carried it out. Kids at Dalat loved Doug and talked about him for years after the Hogans left. He affected many lives for the Lord. Now he is with his Lord. I lost my mom and dad this year, so I know the only comfort is knowing they are with the One we serve. Love and prayers, Nancy

Dear Jan and kids, When Chris Rheney abd I were at Wheaton College your family had us over for dinner several times and made us feel at home away from home. Jan, Ben, Billy, and Katie; I was shocked and saddened to hear of Doug's passing. Nothing I can write will make the pain any better, but you have been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard the news and I will especially pray for you through Wednesday. Doug taught me how to live life fully. He was passionate about God and about people. He never compromised his convictions for convenience, and inspired me to live for the Lord. He was more than a science teacher, a class sponsor, or a coach--he was an example. I can't imagine what his first morning in heaven was like, but I'll bet it was more than enough to elicit a "good night nurse" or something to that effect. My deepest condolences to Jan, Ben, Katie, and Billy. Though it has been many years, I'll always remember Mr. Hogan's infectious laugh, great energy, crazy pranks, and most of all his genuine care and concern for all of us. We've lost an exceptional human being to God.

Jan, Katie, Billy and Ben - I gave my life to Christ at the age of 28 at the CMA church in Buckhannon. I remember praying for a several missionaries and the Hogan Family was on top of the list. It has been exciting to see your ministry over the years touching many lives for Christ and most recently exploding in Philippi. I know you have made many great inroads with believers and unbelievers alike! We will miss Pastor Doug and his ministry, but we know that his legacy will live on in each of you. To Jan and family, I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Doug's passing. Even though I have returned to my home state of Maryland, I will not forget how Doug welcomed me to the Living Water Church family in the little town of Philippi, West Virginia.
