Dowden Edward Shingleton

Dowden Edward “Poppy” Shingleton, age 67, a resident of Peadiddle Rd. Moatsville passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 in River Oaks Nursing Home. He was born August 26, 1952 in Philippi, WV a son of the late Dowden Emmitt and Elsie Virginia (Matlick) Shingleton. He was united in marriage, on August 20, 1976 to Ellen Paulette (Tingler) Shingleton who preceded him in death April 19, 2007. Surviving is- One daughter, Misty Bolton One son, Brian Shingleton, both of Moatsville Two sisters, Connie Freeman and husband Joe of Moatsville Bonnie Searls and husband Terry of Granger, IN One brother, John Elden Shingleton and wife Darla of Moatsville Two grandchildren- David Walter Bolton and Victoria Pearl Barr Mr. Shingleton was preceded in death one sister, Susan Jane Shingleton He worked as a foundry worker for Matthews Bronze Mr. Shingleton served in the U.S. Navy, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of Clarkburg and Valley of Wheeling, Aurora Lodge #43, RAM No 11 of Grafton and Knights of Templar No 12 of Grafton, and an avid farmer. Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday, September 8th from 5-8 pm and on Monday, from 8am-11am the service time with Rev. Jimmy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Morris Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites being conducted as well as Military Honors.

It has been almost 50 yrs since I had last seen him and we were classmates and wrestling team at PBHS in the 70's and also had been on the Poultry Judging Team back then too at Moorefield thru the West Virginia Extension Office when my Dad, George C. Mouser was the Agent and John Lloyd was the 4 H Extension Office Agent.. ” Rest In Peace Ed..” I will turn 67 in December….I had posted this obit on the class of 1971 and Gloria Thompson, Smith had posted it on the Class of 1970 too..
