Ellen O'Neal

Ellen Jean O’Neal, age 86 a resident of Silver Fox Dr. Philippi passed away Tuesday May 12, 2015 in Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington. She was born March 31, 1929 in Barbour Co. a daughter of the late Edward Lynn and Ottis (Stemple) Upton. Ellen was united in marriage on November 24, 1950 to Senior Master Sergeant Frederick E. O’Neal Jr. who preceded her in death on September 12, 1989. Surviving is daughter-in-law, Debbie O’Neal of Philippi Sister, Alice Rebecca Hovatter and husband Glenn of Grafton, OH Ellen was preceded in death by son, Frederick “Eddie” O’Neal, brother, Loyd William Upton, sister, Julia Justine Jones. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #44 ladies Auxiliary, and the US Air force Sergeant Association. Ellen attended the Tacy Crossroads United Methodist Church, and was a graduate of Philippi High School class of 1947. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday May 14, from 1-8 pm and on Friday May 15, from 8-11 am the service hour. Interment will follow in the Marsh Cemetery at Tacy.

  1. We are so saddened by the loss of our lifetime friend Ellen Jean. She has always been like a member of our family. She and my mother, Mack, were close friends since childhood; they spoke on the phone every night at 8 pm. Rest in peace Ellen Jean. You will be missed greatly by many. Love Kim
