Eugene Ralph Sandy

Eugene “Bub” Ralph Sandy of Langsville, Ohio, passed away at the age of 80, on June 17, 2024, at Davis Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 11th, 1943, the youngest son of Willis “Grump” and Delores (Thompson) Sandy. Bub grew up in Volga, West Virginia, and that is where he met and fell in love with Jean Streets. The two were married on June 29, 1963. They spent 60 wonderful years together raising their family.
Eugene was a coal miner all of his life. He started out driving dump trucks before moving on to work at Valley Camp and Southern Ohio Coal Company before retiring from Consol. Gene was a dedicated family man. After retirement, he enjoyed making crafts and doing small jobs fixing things around the house and of course teaching his children to fix “everything.” He was the best handyman and supervisor around.
He and Jean decided they wanted to start camping so that is exactly what they did. They bought their dream camper and found a lovely seasonal home away from home in Parsons, West Virginia, where he enjoyed helping out around Five Rivers Campground. They looked forward to Pickin’ In Parsons Bluegrass Festival every year where they made lifelong friends that felt like family.
He and Jean were blessed to have raised four beautiful children. He is survived by his children Beth (Rocky) Johnson of Langsville, Rod (Teresa) Sandy of Lancaster, Susan (Bill) Powell of Sunbury and Cynthia Jo (Josh) Sigman of Delaware. He was also blessed with 7 grandchildren Cory (Rene), Amanda and Todd (Katie) Johnson, Nikolaus (Eileen) McClellen, Tiffany (Cory) Brown, Anissa (Anja) Powell, Josie Sigman, and 15 great-grandchildren. As well as his sisters-in-law, Janet Kenney and Wahneta Streets, many special nephews and nieces all of whom he loved dearly and special friends Coach Tom Gutshall, John, Joyce, Katlyn, and Karen Bowers, and many friends at McCoy’s One Stop in Vinton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean Sandy, infant son Willis Eugene, brother Paul (Pat) Sandy Sr. and sister Juanita (Frank) Hunt, brothers-in-law Fred Jr, Richard, Bernard, Charles and Willard Streets.
Dad will be remembered for his wonderful smile, constant jokes, and willingness to give the shirt off his back to help anyone. Dad, you will always be in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in peace and give mom love from us kids.

Special thanks to his nephew, Paul Sandy and wife Barbie, for taking such good care of him around the camp after mom’s passing.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday, June 21st from 2-8 pm and on Saturday June 22nd, from 10am- 12 pm. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 12 pm. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
