Eva Marlene Smith, passed away from this life on Saturday September 6, 2014 at her residence. She was the daughter of Clifford “Tip” True and Lucy B. (Parsons) True, born May 27, 1931. In 1948 she was united in marriage to John W. Smith, who preceded her in death in February of 1998.
She is survived by her daughter Janette Marsh and her husband David, of Philippi, her grandchildren Eric Smith of Philippi and Jena Reneman and her husband Alex of Grafton and great grandchildren Asher Smith, Zane and Nora Reneman and Step granddaughter Tabitha Marsh.
Also surviving are brothers Robert “Buck” True of Philippi and James R. True, of Buckhannon and sisters Wilda Moran and Louise Ward of Century and Marian Kelly of Philippi and many nieces and nephews.
Her son John W. Smith, Jr. preceded her in death as well as sisters Martha Payne and Gloria Vance, and brothers William “Bid” True and Raymond “Buddy” True.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren alike, whom she loved to serve and had dedicated her life to their wellbeing.
She was a vital member of the Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church where she currently served as Treasurer and had held many offices including Sunday School Teacher for many years and she also assisted, her special friend, Lucille, in cleaning the church until recent years.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday September 8 from 3-8 pm and on Tuesday September 9, from 8 – 11am the service hour with Pastor Gary R. Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery.
