Frederick Karl Schwirian, age 89, a resident of South Walnut St. Philippi passed away Friday July 22, 2016 in Mon General Hospital, in Morgantown, WV
Fred was born November 16, 1926, in Philippi, a son of the late John and Matilda (Blake) Schwirian.
On September 1, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joanne (Shafer) Schwirian, who survives. Also surviving are one son David Karl Schwirian and wife Debra of Charleston, WV and one daughter Terri Jo Coleman and husband Terry Lynn of Cross Lanes, WV; three grandchildren Garrett Andrew Coleman (Lyndsey) of Cross Lanes, Ryan Christopher Coleman of Washington, D.C., and Courtney Jo Petry (Chase) of Saint Albans, WV. Also surviving is one sister, Ella Bacchus of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Herman, and Robert, and six sisters, Susan, Janet, Edna, Doris Ann, Hilda and Mary Elizabeth.
Fred was a graduate of Philippi High School. He worked with his dad in the Philippi Bakery while growing up and still enjoyed making salt rising bread. He was a veteran of Korean War. He retired from Pittston Coal Co., where he worked as warehouse manager then purchasing agent. He was a member of Bigelow Lodge #52 AF & AM and Philippi Chapter #41 OES. He was a lifelong member of the Philippi Presbyterian Church where he was elder and was a past treasurer. The family wishes to thank Twana Cowger for the excellent care which she provided to Fred during the past year.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday July 24, from 4-5 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 5 pm with Rev. Don Coleman and Pastor Cherrie Sizemore officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with Bigelow Lodge #52 conducting graveside rites.
