Helena P. Thacker, age 100, a resident of Colonial Place in Elkins, and a former resident of Philippi passed away at 4:30 a.m. Saturday October 17, 2009 at Colonial Place. She was born November 1, 1908 in Athens Ohio a daughter of the late Ralph and Lucia (Gazzelle) Antorietto natives of Ruta, Italy. She was united in marriage in 1939 to Victor H. Thacker who preceded her in death in 1977. Surviving is;
One daughter; Mary Ellen Sparks and the late Walter G. Sparks III of Philippi
One son; Victor L. and wife Mary T. Thacker of Elkins
Four grandchildren; Walter G. Sparks IV, Kent Sparks, Sarah Humpa, Susannah McGowan
10 great grandchildren; Savanna, Madalyn, Arrington, Braylyn, Connely Sparks, Kathleen, Kristina, Eric Humpa, Javier, and Aurora McGowan.
Mrs. Thacker was preceded in death by three sisters; Jospehine Burke, Dora Antorigtto, Mary A. McKay, one brother; Paul Antorietto.
Mrs. Thacker was a retired school teacher for the Barbour County School System.
Mrs. Thacker was a member of the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.
Friends will received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday October 18, from 5-8:00 p.m. and on Monday October 19, from 8-11:00 a.m. the service hour with Rev. Alicia Rapking officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Thacker was my teacher at Philippi High School and an inspiration to many students. I am saddened to hear of her passing. I am remembering the family in my prayers at this time.
