Herbert was preceded in death by two sisters; Virginia Leahy and Juanita Holbert, two brothers; Thomas Holbert and Homer Holbert, four son-in-laws George Johnson, John Davide, Ken Vanmeter and Tom Condon.
Herbert worked as a warehouse supervisor for Safe-Way Foods. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Jobb in the Pacific Ocean. Herbert was an active member of the American Legions Post #44 where he participated in 150 honor guard services, a lifetime member of the Belington VFW #410, a member of the Barbour Church of Christ, the Mount Liberty Community and the Barbour County Senior Center.
Herbert enjoyed antique cars, making apple butter and collecting Fisher-Price toys.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday February 23, from 3-8 pm and on Monday February 24, from 8- 11:30 am the service hour with Evangelist Stan Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery with full military honors being accorded.
