Janice Murphy

Janice M. Murphy, age 83, a resident of Philippi, passed away Saturday March 4, 2023 in the United Hospital Center. Janice was born April 8, 1939 in Volga, WV a daughter of the late Charles William and Verdie (Dadisman) Anderson. Janice was united in marriage on August 22, 1958 to James Murphy who preceded her in death on April 20, 2012.
Surviving is daughter, Angela Joy Phillips of Belington; sisters, Katie Anderson, and Geneva Anderson both of Philippi; brothers, Dwight Anderson of Morgantown, and Harvard Anderson of Aurora, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by son-in-law, Jeffrey Phillips; sisters, Linda Anderson, Louise Murphy, Barbara Johnson, Louetta Murphy; brother, Charles Anderson
Janice worked as a seamstress for Reidboard Brothers, and retired from the Barbour County Board of Education as a cook and also worked as a custodian. Janice enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, and crocheting. She was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church, and assisted in making vegetable soup with the church ladies, she was also a member of the Barbour County CEOS.
Friends will be received at the Jerusalem United Methodist Church 212 Briar Patch Rd. Philippi on Tuesday March 7, from 12:30- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Pastor Sam Haught officiating. Interment will follow in the Jerusalem Cemetery.
