John Allen Califf, age 66, a resident of Philippi passed away Tuesday November 13, 2018 in Broaddus Hospital after an extended illness. John was born August 25, 1952 in Philippi a son of the late James W. Califf Sr. and Edith (McCoy) Califf. John was united in marriage on February 14, 1986 to Judy L. (Weese) Califf who survives at home. Also surviving Son, Christopher J. Califf of Bridgeport Close friends, Barbara and Gregg Smith of Meadowville Nephew, David Califf and wife Teea of Pottsville, PA Great nieces and nephews, Hailey, Logan, Rainer Califf Several cousins, nieces and nephews John was preceded in death by brothers, David Califf, James Califf Jr. Robert “Ace” Califf John was a graduate of WVU with a degree in Pharmacy. John worked for 25 years as a Pharmacist for Rite Aid, and also worked as an outside contractor for RPH on the Go. He enjoyed kayaking, camping, fishing, listening to music and traveling. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Saturday November 17, from 12-2 pm. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm with Francis McCoy officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

So very sorry for the loss of John, he was a nice man, and a wonderful pharmacist, he always had a smile on his face at Rite Aid, when he saw u there at the counter, he always went out of his way to speak, and to talk to u about any concerns may have. God bless each and everyone of u, God is Good, he will b with u thru this, he will comfort u if u ask, will b thinking and praying for u in the days, weeks, and months ahead, but I know our Jesus will b by your side all the way, God bless this family.

  6. Hadn't seen John for over forty five years but never forgot him. We had a blast while in school. Always considered John a great friend. Just by chance we reconnected at Audra this summer- so grateful for that. RIP

  7. john — i will miss you — last time i saw you — i heard a horn blow outside my door — lets go see bob dylan —- he said dublin — i thought he meant ohio — he was talking ireland —- what a free spirit — i just found out about his passing — i was stuck in a hospital — i am sorry john i missed your wake — i will laugh at the time i first met you at rite aid — i was going to be his partner — went to the store no john —- ask the tech's where the pharmacist was — he was repairing a hot tub some where –RIP

  8. Just heard about Johns death from another mutual friend. Sorry I'm so late with this.

    I spent a lot of time with John Allen between the years of 1968 to 1974. Went to High School and WVU with him. I had many wild, crazy and fun adventures with John during those years. I remember he and I riding a puny little 125cc motorcycle from Philippi to Morgantown so he could buy the “Woodstock” album as soon as it was released. We rode lots of miles on motorcycles together.

    John was a VERY imaginative and funny guy.
