John Brokaw Porterfield, of Bridgeport , WV, formerly of Cape Canaveral, FL, passed from this life February 21, 2020. He was born in Cadiz, Ohio, July 1, 1924, a son of the late Nelle and Lloyd Porterfield.
Drafted into the Army following graduation from Cadiz High School, he served in the Quartermaster Corps. John followed the infantry from England to France to Germany.
Returning home, John entered Marietta College. On the very first day of college he met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Wait, of Washington, DC. They married one year later and enjoyed 72 happy years together.
John was a retired mathematician and systems analyst for Planning Research Corporation of McLean, Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Barbara, daughter Karen and husband Jim Skidmore of Philippi, WV, son Jeff and wife Annette Porterfield of Crofton, MD, grandson Daniel and wife Kerry, and great-grandson Jackson Skidmore of Palm Bay, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Sara Jane Ehrhart of Arleta, CA.
Through all his 95 years, John Porterfield lived a full and productive life and was loved by all who knew him.
A Celebration of John Porterfield’s Life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Maplewood Independent Living, Bridgeport, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Mountain Hospice, 1002 Crim Ave., Belington, WV 26250.
