Juanita “Peg” Proudfoot, age 88, a resident of Rt. 3 Norris Ridge Rd. Philippi passed away Tuesday June 5, 2012 in the acute care unit of Broaddus Hospital. She was born May 28, 1924 in Philippi, a daughter of the late Herman J. and Mary A. (Poling) Poling. Peg was united in marriage April 21, 1945 to Aubrey Bertsel ” Bert” Proudfoot who preceded her in death on August 10, 2002.
Peg was a loving aunt to all her nieces and nephews: Mary Alice McLean and husband Ronald, William Ray Proudfoot and wife Kathy, Judith Ann Cain and husband Steve, Steven Proudfoot and wife Beth, Candace Lee Jacques and husband Sesario, William “Bucky” Poling and wife Mary, Stephany Primose and husband Paul, William F. Poling Jr. and wife Leckta, Edward Len Poling and wife Sara, Flora Jeanne Phillips, Matthew Aaron Jacques and wife Dawn, William Nathaniel Poling, Emma Poling, Audrey Poling, Ashley Poling, Gage Parker Poling,Chandler Paxton Poling, Logan Blaine Phillips, Brittany Dawn Jacques, Jacob Primrose and Jason Cain. Also surviving is: brother-in-law: Orvel Lee Proudfoot and wife Freda. Her dedicated caregiver Shelia Collins and Emma Wiant.
Peg was preceded in death by one brother: Herman Poling Jr. two brother-in-laws Jennings J. Proudfoot, and William Paul Proudfoot, three sister-in-laws: Ida Lou Proudfoot, Jeanne Poling, and Betty Proudfoot.
Peg retired as an American History school teacher with 35 years service from the Barbour County Schools. She was a member of the Dorcas Rebekah Lodge #275, Barbour County Retired Teachers Association, and was co-owner of the Green Acres Tack Shop. Peg was a member of the Philippi United Methodist Church. She attended Alderson-Broaddus College and also West Virginia University.
Peg’s request for cremation will be honored.

Friends will be received at the Philippi United Methodist Church 115 Mason St. Philippi on Sunday June 17, from 1- 2 pm. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm with Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Juanita “Peg” Proudfoot memorial scholarship fund Premier Bank 2 N. Main St. c/o Mary Alice McLean McLean.

I remember having Mrs. Proudfoot as a fair and giving teacher. I liked her very much

Mrs Proudfoot was an amazing teacher ('64) and an amazing presence. Thank you, Peg, for being Peg.

I was honored to have the priviledge of being one of the nurses that took care of Peg. I will always remember her graciously. God's Grace to all the family at this time of sadness.

juanita was such a thoughtful and caring person throughout her many years. many lives were touched by her. mine being one of them. i felt honored to be able to help her as she bravely fought her battle with cancer.

Peg was my high school teacher and an excellent historian. She was definitely an asset to the educational field in Barbour County.

Thoughts and Prayers for the family...Barbour County Schools were so lucky to have such a dedicated teacher among the ranks. She not only did she have me as a student in her class, but also, had my Mother, Gloria Moore...Awesome Teacher.

She was a wonderful teacher and person who will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Peg,(grandma as we called her) was a wonderful lady. We were blessed that she was a part of our lives. She will be deeply missed in our hearts.

I am sad to hear of Mrs. Proudfoot passing away. She was my favorite teacher. I looked forward to her class every day. She was a great teacher and a very pretty lady. My sympathy goes to her family.

The BEST teacher and nicest person anyone could ever want to know.Our memories of high school would not be the same without her.Kind ,caring and fair is the three words that make us think of her.

Mrs. Proudfoot was one of my favorite teachers in high school. She was a great person and made a lasting impression in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Dear Family...Mrs. Proudfoot was my favorite teacher at PBHS. She truly cared for each one of her students. When I would see her out and about, long after I graduated, she always had encouraging words for me and a "pat on the back" for whatever was going on in my life. I loved her and still do. Rest in peace, Mrs. Proudfoot.

Mrs. Proudfoot was one of the best teachers I had at Philip Barbour High School. She shared her knowledge with countless students. What a fine woman she was.

She was a wonderful teacher and a very fine person as well ! We graduated in 1958.

Mrs. Proudfoot was one of the best teachers I had while attending PBHS. She challenged you as a student to do your best and you could see her satisfaction when you met the challenge. She pushed you to be the best you could be and am forever thankful. She was a good person.

Mrs. Proudfoot was an excellent teacher and a great American. She did everything with a passion and integrity that made us better students and ciitzens. Her family can find comfort in a legacy of excellence and caring. May God give you peace through the Prince of Peace until that great reunion day.

God blessed us to have her in our lives as a teacher and friend, and He blessed her with the love of our country and its great history,she loved teaching and us as students, class of '69.

Mrs. Proudfoot was my teacher and I dearly loved her. Even after I graduated in 1983 and throughout the years....she always remembered me no matter how much time had passed. She really cared about the kids. She was a sweet soul and will be missed. Prayers for her family
