Juanita “Peg” Proudfoot, age 88, a resident of Rt. 3 Norris Ridge Rd. Philippi passed away Tuesday June 5, 2012 in the acute care unit of Broaddus Hospital. She was born May 28, 1924 in Philippi, a daughter of the late Herman J. and Mary A. (Poling) Poling. Peg was united in marriage April 21, 1945 to Aubrey Bertsel ” Bert” Proudfoot who preceded her in death on August 10, 2002.
Peg was a loving aunt to all her nieces and nephews: Mary Alice McLean and husband Ronald, William Ray Proudfoot and wife Kathy, Judith Ann Cain and husband Steve, Steven Proudfoot and wife Beth, Candace Lee Jacques and husband Sesario, William “Bucky” Poling and wife Mary, Stephany Primose and husband Paul, William F. Poling Jr. and wife Leckta, Edward Len Poling and wife Sara, Flora Jeanne Phillips, Matthew Aaron Jacques and wife Dawn, William Nathaniel Poling, Emma Poling, Audrey Poling, Ashley Poling, Gage Parker Poling,Chandler Paxton Poling, Logan Blaine Phillips, Brittany Dawn Jacques, Jacob Primrose and Jason Cain. Also surviving is: brother-in-law: Orvel Lee Proudfoot and wife Freda. Her dedicated caregiver Shelia Collins and Emma Wiant.
Peg was preceded in death by one brother: Herman Poling Jr. two brother-in-laws Jennings J. Proudfoot, and William Paul Proudfoot, three sister-in-laws: Ida Lou Proudfoot, Jeanne Poling, and Betty Proudfoot.
Peg retired as an American History school teacher with 35 years service from the Barbour County Schools. She was a member of the Dorcas Rebekah Lodge #275, Barbour County Retired Teachers Association, and was co-owner of the Green Acres Tack Shop. Peg was a member of the Philippi United Methodist Church. She attended Alderson-Broaddus College and also West Virginia University.
Peg’s request for cremation will be honored.
Friends will be received at the Philippi United Methodist Church 115 Mason St. Philippi on Sunday June 17, from 1- 2 pm. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm with Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Juanita “Peg” Proudfoot memorial scholarship fund Premier Bank 2 N. Main St. c/o Mary Alice McLean McLean.
