Larry Alden “Pappy” Corley, 79, of Philippi, WV passed away on April 11, 2019.
Larry was born August 25, 1939 to Verne and Ica Bennett Corley, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Philippi High School in 1956.
On July 8th 1957 he was united in marriage to Deanna Sharon Dadisman Corley. She preceded him in death December 5th 2018. They were married 61 years.
Together they had 5 children, son Jimmy Corley and wife Cheryl of Philippi, daughter Joyce Corley Wilson of Philippi, son Jeff Corley of Philippi, daughter Angie Corley Clausen and husband Rick of Bonnie Lake, Washington and son Burt Corley and wife Amy of Philippi. He was preceded in death by son-in-law Tim Wilson and granddaughter Amber Dailey. He has 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Larry worked as a farmer and coal miner until he retired.
Larry had 13 brothers and sisters. Those who preceded him in death are Ernest Corley, Mary Margaret Waller and husband Tom, Hilma Jean Corley, Carol Holbert and husband Herbert, Milton Corley and wife Shirley, Mavis Tompson and husband Hugh, Vern Jr Corley and wife Mary, Richard Corley, and brothers-in-law Ronnie Moore and Bob Metheny. Living siblings are Robert Corley and wife Nina, Connie Metheny, Karen Corley, Willis Corley and wife Aggie and Marian Corley and sister in law Carmen Corley.
Larry served in the United States Army from 1957-1960 and was stationed in Germany. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 44 of Philippi, the Barbour County Democrat Executive Committee and the Union Community Improvement Association. He was an avid hunter and horseman.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Legion Post 44 at 63 South Main Street, Philippi, WV 26416.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 6-8pm and on Monday, April 15th from 8-11am the service time with Pastor Lester Lind officiating.
